coverage for West Virginia children.
WV Early Childhood Health Project
The Early Childhood Health Project is a collaboration of
individuals and agencies working together to improve the
health and safety of young children while in out-of-home
care settings in West Virginia. The website offers
information and resources for implementing and promoting
health and safety standards.
Covering Kids & Families (Robert Wood Johnson Foundation)
Covering Kids and Families
works to reduce the number of uninsured children and adults
who are eligible for public health care coverage programs
but not enrolled. Covering Kids & Families operates through
statewide projects in 45 states and the District of Columbia
and more than 140 local community projects. In addition, 5
states have CKF liaison grants that provide opportunities to
participate in the national CKF initiative.
Start Healthy, Stay Healthy Campaign
The Start Healthy, Stay Healthy campaign is a national
outreach effort conducted by the Center on Budget and Policy
Priorities, a private, nonprofit research and policy
organization based in Washington, D.C. The campaign enlists
a wide array of community-based organizations, health and
human services providers, advocacy groups, program
administrators and others to identify children from
low-income working families who may be eligible for free or
low-cost health insurance programs. The campaign also
promotes coordination between newly enacted state child
health insurance programs and Medicaid to ensure that
children are not in danger of being left without coverage.
West Virginians for
Affordable Health Care
A groups of diverse West Virginians concerned
with rising health care costs in West Virginia. WVAHC does
public policy research, lobbies the West Virginia
Legislature, interacts with the Governor of West Virginia
and agency heads, educates the public about matters that
affect health care costs, and publishes newsletters and
promote conferences on health care.

The DHHR
administers many programs that benefit the health of the

West Virginia Bureau for Medical Services (Medicaid)
The Bureau
for Medical Services operates the WV Medicaid program.
Their vision is to assure access to appropriate, medically
necessary quality health care, to make the Bureau user
friendly for providers and beneficiaries, and to improve the
health of West Virginians by focusing on preventive care.
Shenandoah-Potomac Regional Health Care
Center
This community site
gives you and your family easy access to area healthcare
services and information. Currently, the Regional Health
Resource Center has information on nine counties in West
Virginia and several counties of Western Maryland.
National Initiative for Children's Health Care Quality
We know what outstanding health care for children looks
like. But, too often, we busy practitioners don't apply what
we know. NICHQ’s goal is to close the gap between what we
know and what we do, and to provide the best care for all
children, all of the time. Collaboration is the cornerstone
of our approach to improving care.
Action for Healthy Kids
Action for Healthy Kids (AFHK) is a nationwide initiative
dedicated to improving the health and educational
performance of children through better nutrition and
physical activity in schools. This effort represents a
response to our nation's epidemic of overweight, sedentary,
and undernourished children and adolescents. AFHK is
composed of 51 State Teams, including one for West Virginia,
and a national coordinating and resource group.
